Artist’s Sketchbook
For the “Art As Replenishment” Class any drawing journal or paper pad will suffice. A pad or book with a hard or semi hard back is preferred. Something with a stiff enough backing to draw aginst.
Drawing pencils (one 2B and one 6B will suffice)
assorted tortillons (paper blending stumps) one medium
Erasers (kneaded, vinyl, gum- all fine)
Optional, assorted colored pencils (set of 12 or more colors, preferable)

The Role Of Art In Times Of Socioeconomic Transition
While I have enjoyed the visual arts and sculpting throughout my lifetime, the current socioeconomic conditions lead me to believe that the opportunities and need for participation, exploration and enjoyment of the arts has never been greater.
Our society is experiencing unprecedented changes and shifts in lifestyle the likes of which has not have been experienced in over 70 years.
Many people of all ages and demographic sectors are currently experiencing psychological trauma due to socioeconomic conditions. Individuals young and old can benefit from involvement in the arts. Art provides a creative outlet for pent up emotions, release from anxiety and stress. It has been said that while creating art one can both loose oneself and find oneself. Art gives us the ability to express ourselves our own unique emotions, thoughts and experiences.
From an educational standpoint it is well documented that Art education can play a major role in a child's academic and social development. I believe that participation in the arts is educationally, socially and holistically beneficial for individuals of all ages.
The role of art in times of socioeconomic transition that I instruct is that of learning the enjoyment of the creative process. Drawing and painting provides an excellent source of personal relaxation and provides therapeutic benefits. Participating regularly in the arts will expand ones greater awareness of the beauty of nature.
The purpose of my teaching and the information presented in this blog:
Is not,
to exemplify the saddening realities of reduced funding for arts programs both public and private,
Is to, guide individuals to creating and developing their own new low cost sustainable holistic recreation.
Is to, assist individuals in finding and implementing creative solutions to problem solving in every aspect of ones life.
Is to, build social relationships with others of compatible needs and interests.
Is to, stimulate Individuals to develop their own self confidence in the results obtainable through artistic exploration and Creativity
